The Reality of Hell

HADES ABYSS TARTARUS LAKE OF FIRE PARADISE

Overview of Hell
This website is devoted to my studies on the subject of hell, as well as, the way to escape it! Hell is a real place originally created for the devil and his angels (Matt 25:41). In order to follow this doctrine you must have a general understanding of the resurrection. If not, you can E-Mail me if you have any questions, comments, or differing opinions.

As I read the Bible I often came across some passages that didn't make sense to me. Several were on this doctrine, hell. I would listen to teachers on the radio and read some books but I was still unclear and even the parts I understood I could never explain to anyone else. All this until I studied the Bible for myself. I decided to fully study the subject and then compare what I discovered to other people's commentaries.

Two main scriptures were puzzling to me. The first was Rev 20:14 "Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death". I wondered how hell could be thrown into hell. The second scripture is found in Luke 23:43 And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise." I thought how could the thief be with Jesus in paradise that same day when Jesus was three days in the grave and it wasn't until awhile later Jesus went to heaven. The following information is what I gleaned from the Holy Scriptures.

The Bible was written in Hebrew and Greek, with a small amount written in Aramaic and Persian. The Greek language depicts four distinct places that in our English we call hell. One of the things I found in this study, is there are four different Greek words for the English word Hell. They are Gehenna, Abyss, and Tartarus. When I realized this, the confusion became eliminated. There are links to these above that take you to individual pages of each place. Each page has a diagram that will help you understand this doctrine. Discovery of the different Greek words was the key in solving my puzzling questions about hell, death, and the resurrection.

When it comes to the topic of death, hell and the grave, probably the most important insight into the mystery of death is from the text of the “Rich man and Lazarus”. Without this piece in the puzzle, the rest of it would not make sense, so this is the best place to start. As mentioned in chapter four, the New Testament, is in Greek. Below in the account that Jesus tells, the Greek word here is “HADES”. The New King James Version uses the Greek word here already, where most other translations use the word hell.

Lucifer - Not the King of Hell, but Hell's Chief Prisoner
Lucifer was created by God as probably the highest angelic being. According to Scripture he was the "anointed cherub" that covers. He was musical and most likely led the other angels in worship to God. Pride entered his heart and he thought he could usurp God's authority and become like God. After Lucifer's iniquity and moral failure he was cast out of heaven and took on a new persona. He is now called the great dragon, the serpent of old Satan, the Devil. Below are some Scripture references and a link to an online Bible resource.

Other Names of Lucifer:

SATAN
THE DEVIL
THE SERPENT
THE DRAGON
